Summer Bliss

Ok, so this happened three weeks ago already, but you know how hard it is to get back on track after a long break.

I put this picture as my background pic on my laptop after I lost the previous one of Jymy through reordering of old files. This is from Koivuranta in Vääksy, a village in the southern part of the lake Päijänne. My dad's family is from Kalkkinen which is a bit north from Vääksy, just across Pulkkilanharju.

We visited Koivuranta on August 9th to attend a yearly family gathering always abundant with honest food, happy family talk, games and programme, sauna and swimming and of course a birthday cake for my grandma. Happy birtday Aino!

Check out some more pictures of the Finnish summer by the lake and a couple of rare shots of lakeside species.

abundant with honest food,

have you had an over-abundance of 'dishonest' food? q;

Erm, no... :)

A little research just revealed to me that the google search for "honest food" produces 105 000 hits, but that people may mean very different things by the adjective.

Honest food might mean fair trade food providing an honest deal to the producers, or it might mean food without any additives so that the food is honest about what it's made of. But by honest food people also mean what I meant: simple food that's nourishing and tastes good, made by real people from simple ingredients without fancy chef trickery or expensive spices brought from far-away countries.

It's counter part would be a design plate decorated with carved exotic vegetables and sauces with names you can't pronounce and then you're unsure which fork to use and even though the food tastes really good it also leaves you quite hungry and empties your wallet a bit too eagerly.
